A high-quality oud blended EDP, Blue Oud is as strong as you’d imagine. Surprisingly, even if you don’t like oud, you may like this one.

Overview

Blue Oud is a woody oud based blend released by the Saudi perfumery house Arabian Oud. It is one of the house’s higher end EDP offerings. Its namesake is an ode to the legendary blue oud wood chips (aka “super double”) used in Arabian incense customs.  It is available as a 100ml eau de parfum as well as a concentrated oil.

Presentation

Blue Oud

Blue Oud by Arabian Oud

The bottle on this one is a nice and aesthetically pleasing one with a broad upper end and a slender lower end. The deep blue to white color gradient is stunning especially considering the golden color of the juice inside. In the hand, the bottle feels just as good as it looks.

There is one issue and that is with the stopper or cap. Sometimes it does not stay on securely as you have to push it on evenly. I would have much rather seen a magnetic cap or at the very least a snap-on cap considering the price range of this fragrance.

It does come in a nice leather wrapped gift set box which include 24ml of the pure essence oil of the same composition.

Juice (Scent Composition)

Here we have a case of beauty in its simplicity. Three notes: Indian Oud (Agarwood), musk, ambergris.

Indian Oud differs from the likes of Cambodian oud or Thai oud in that Indian oud is deeper and darker both in color and scent. It is famous (or infamous depending on your view) for that notable anamalic barnyard fecal note. This, of course, is an acquired taste and many oud lovers would be content if this scent just remained as such. Thus, the opening may very well put you off if you do not like that scent.

But, as it is from the lessons of life, the patient are rewarded. If you stick around (say after half and hour or so) then this fragrance quickly metamorphasizes into a completely different animal. (Pun intended 🙂 ) The musk and ambergris protrude out past the dark Indian oud giving it a bright warm ambery musky scent in an oud blend that is stunning with one of the best dry-downs in an oud based edp.

The thoughts that are evoked when I smell it: “warm”, “funky”, and “oudy”.

If I were to describe it in Layman’s terms, I would say that it smells like perfumed burning tires.

An amazing blend with an amazing dry-down.

Performance

Projection: A squirt fills up an entire room. Nuff said. 10/10

Longevity: Beast mode and mutant longevity. Will stay in your clothes for weeks.   10/10

Impressions (Complement factor): Impressions (Complement factor): I bought this one to work to let some of my colleagues try it so that I could get their impressions. They tried it and were buzzing about it for days afterwards. One of them told me that after applying it, he didn’t really give it a second thought until a few days later when the scent radiated from his closet where he hung up his shirt. He couldn’t get enough of it.   10/10

Best Season: Winter

Is it right for you?

If you love oud, then this is a no brainer to try. But even if you do not like oud, then I would implore you to at least give the drydown a chance. I have personally found several people who do not like oud per say but like this fragrance.

What are your thoughts? Have you tried this one? I’d love to hear them down below.
