Overview

Let me first start off by saying that in my hands is a jewel. Ajwa by al Haramain is a hidden jewel and you will not see this perfume reviewed anywhere else (bold statement, I know) If you do, please let me know down below in the comments section! This fragrance is absolutely lovely and is and a complete steal if you can find it at its retail price. It’s a floral aromatic unisex oriental fragrance offered in an 80 ml EDP.  Now, on to the ratings.

Ajwa Al Haramain

Ajwa Al Haramain

The bottle on this one is very unique to say the least. What I like about it is the design cue and the inspiration behind it. You see, Ajwa is the name of a type of date palm tree  and its fruit that is native to Medinah located in Saudi Arabia. Its dates, called ajwa are the most prized and sought-after dates among Muslims worldwide.

Hence, this fragrance is an ode to the ajwa date palm tree (even though there is no hint of such in the actual fragrance note; more on that later) hence the prominence of the date palm on the bottle encasement.

The glass bottle is encased by a plastic encasement with a brushed metal effect. It looks very nice.

But here’s the issue: the bottle is way too big. I have huge hands and it barely fits in my hand which means it’s pretty difficult to spray with one had like most conventional bottles of perfume. Many people will have to hold it with BOTH hands to spray it which is not cool. The clear plastic cap, while it goes nice with the rest of the bottle design, is very loosely fitting, falling off easily when you least expect it.

The size and cap hold back what would be an excellent design.

Juice (Scent Composition)

The main notes in Ajwa have nothing to do with dates at all. Rather, the main notes in this one are citrus (lemon and bergamot) and floral notes (mimosa, jasmine) at the top, Amber, rose, chamomile and ylang-ylang in the middle, and saffron, musk, sandalwood, spices, and cumin at the base.

What really jumps out is the citrus, chamomile, and ylang-ylang (a type of flower) but mainly the chamomile. After about half an hour or so, you can start to detect more of the musk. The chamomile really brings out a deep, sweet, and relaxing note to the fragrance. Something in it brings out a bit of crisp green as well.

The thoughts that are evoked when I smell it: “clean”, “green” “fresh”, “soapy”, and “calming.”

If I were to describe it in Layman’s terms, I would say that it smells like a fresh bouquet flowers next to a bubble bath.

I’m madly in love with this scent. I’m already on my second bottle in less than a year.
