A premium niche fragrance with a premium price tag, Aventus by the House of Creed is a polarizing men’s fragrance among fragrance enthusiasts and collectors despite the fact that no true fragrance collection is complete without it. In this review, we address the question once and for all: Is it worth the hype?

Overview

Aventus by the House of Creed was initially released in 2010. This fruity and smoky niche fragrance was inspired by the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the idea being that this fragrance evokes strength, power, and success. The noses behind this concoction are the father and son partnership of Oliver and Erwin Creed.

It is an Eau de Parfum and it is available in 30ml, 50ml, and 100ml sizes. There are larger sizes (I personally have a 125ml bottle; plus there are 250ml, 500ml, 1,000ml flacons) for those who wish to cough up the big bucks (or sell some splits and make some bucks 🙂 .

Speaking of big bucks, this fragrance comes in at a premium and the continued rise in demand results in regular price increases from Creed. A 100ml (3.38 oz) bottle retails for $425. But, if you know where to look, you can find it for much much cheaper without being scammed on the many fakes out there. (We got you covered. See link at the end of the post.)

Now, on the the ratings.

Presentation

Creed is renowned for their high quality, minimalistic bottles and Aventus is no different. The bottle is sleek and slim, slightly curved emblazoned with a silver horse and rider emblem. Thus, the black with silver highlights is the theme here. The cap is lightweight plastic and embroidered with the Creed crown crest. However, one issue I’ve had is that after prolonged use, the cap is prone to fitting loosely on the bottle. But, the sprayer is excellent with a nice clicky spraying sound.  Score: 8/10

Juice

Make no mistake: This is a unique scent and anyone who has smelled it recognizes immediately. As soon as you spray it on your skin, the first thing that stands out is a citrusy pineapple aroma with a little smoky hint. As it fades the smoky scent becomes more and more prominent. There’s a lot going on: there’s apple, pineapple, black currant. Then, there’s birch and a recognizable musk to give it a smoky, masculine scent.

In layman’s terms: A pineapple berry marmalade roasting in a wood smoker.

Overall, it’s a well-crafted, deep unique smelling scent.  Score: 10/10

Performance

Initial projection is average. Anyone within arms reach of you will pick up the scent but not beyond that.  On my skin, I get about 8-9 hours which is very good longevity. It’s a very versatile fragrance; suitable for any season and occasion. You won’t find too many guys wearing this one around town despite the fact that it’s well known among anyone who has the least amount of interest in fragrances so, naturally, such a nice smelling and rare scent will grab many compliments. The longevity and versatility push this one towards greatness. Score: 9/10

Is it worth the hype?

I believe it is. It smells great, it has good performance. It’s unique and versatile. The thing which pushes it into the“overhyped” court is the price. While I don’t think a 100ml bottle is worth $425, one that is closer to $300 from a trusted seller  *like this one (ebay) is, in my opinion well worth it. As always, If you’ve never smelled this one before, buy a sample before splurging. Blind buys are no-nos. Sample Creed Aventus * here on ebay.
